From: Pieter Stouten SHOGI NET> Date: 8 dec 1999 Subject: Riichi (Japanese) Mahjong at the MSO 2000 The attached mail is forwarded on behalf of Frans Roquas soest nl>. Please respond to him directly (not to SHOGI-L) if you are interested to see a Japanese Mahjong tournament organized at the MSO 2000. Pieter Stouten, SHOGI-L owner E-mail: stouten shogi net ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- To all Shogi players, Firstly let me introduce myself: my name is Frans Roquas and besides being a Shogi player I also like to play Mahjong especially Riichi-Mahjong. I went to the Italian MSO in Milan to play Shogi and had a very nice time. I had the chance to talk to Mr. Levy, one of the people of the MSO and I asked him if it was possible to organize Riichi-Mahjong. He told me if I could get 10 people (but since it's Mahjong it has to be 12 people) it would be possible to arrange something. Since Shogi play starts 23rd of August 2000 it is possible to arrange something from 19 to 22 of August. So anyone who wants to play Mahjong at the MSO please e-mail me before 24 of December. Frans Roquas soest nl> Below is an exerpt from a Mahjong site which was so kind to put up my request. Wanted: Riichi-players for Mind Sports Olympiad From 19-28 August, 2000, in London, England, the Mind Sports Olympiad is going to be held. Until now, Mahjong is not played on the MSO events. However, Dutch Riichi player Frans Roquas is negotiating with the organization about a Riichi tournament. If there are at least twelve players, chances are fair that it will be held. Mr. Roquas invites Riichi players from Europe or other countries to participate. Before the end of the year, Mr. Roquas has to produce a list of at least twelve players who are willing to come to London in this period. Some players from The Netherlands have already shown their interest. But players from other countries from Europe or other parts of the world are welcome as well. There will be no qualifying rounds. Mr. Roquas at this point cannot say much about the cost, but he says it is very likely the MSO will pay part of the expenses. 'It will probably not be expensive.' Players who are interested are encouraged to send an e-mail to the staff of the Independent Internet Mahjong Newspaper. At this stage, registration is without obligation.
