From: Andrew Okun ENI NET> Date: 1 dec 1999 Subject: Yahoo! It occurs to me, given the current cloud of sour spit-balls going back and forth on this list, that a new topic of conversation is needed. How about this: I often play hearts and have occasionally played chess on Yahoo!'s java-based game site, http://games.yahoo.com/. The interfaces on all the Yahoo! games are far beyond the quality of other java game sites I have used. On top of that, it handles a pretty staggering quantity of play. At this very moment, it is handling more than 36,000 players, including more than 4,000 chess players. It strikes me that if we help out the Yahoo! games people to set up a Shogi area, including code for robot players, we would have an invaluable tool for evangelizing the game among non-Japanese. The name would have exposure among the tens of thousands of players at the site, we would have an excellent interface to which to refer people who want to learn about the game, practice or meet other players. How about it? Andy Okun
