I would prefer to advance the kingside edge pawn(P1d) and the center Pawn(P5d) prier to P4d. P1d intends to prevent Black from making possible N*1e in future. In Ranging Rook strategy, it usually happen both sides capture the Rookside kNight and Lance in hand each other in the middlegame. Therefore, it is important to fix the holes of kNight or Lance dropping attack before starting hostility. P5d means to give broader movable space for the Silver on 6b. Generally, Rookside Silver is a key piece for attack which usually moves forward. Therefore, it is most case a good move to give a space for Rookside Silver to advance in the opening. And do not forget P5d also prevents Black from making possible N*5e drop in future. > The point of my opponent's 39th move is revealed. > 44 DoHi(82) > 45 DoKei(77) > 46 87FuNaru(86) > 47 DoGin(78) > 48 89HiUtsu > 49 82FuUtsu > A surprise. Black abandons the silver and knight. I agree. 49 R*6a instead of 49 82FuUtsu would bring a Silver to Black. > 63 23KeiNaru(15) > 64 DoGyoku(22) > 65 83FuNaru(84) > 66 14Fu(13) > Aiming for an attack along the 1-file, but with only 1 pawn in hand, it is an ill-conceived idea. I think 66 14Fu was still a good defensive move, since it prevented Black from making a checking kNight drop on 1e. > 70 46Fu(45) > Only 1 pawn in hand, but it is enough for this frontal assault. > 71 DoFu(47) > 72 47FuUtsu I feel 71 DoFu was too honest. I would prefer to drop Lance on 4e as counterattack instead. > 99 33KeiNaru(45) > It's probably not wise to give me a knight in hand while N'35 is still available to me. > 100 DoGin(42) > 101 38Gin(39) > 102 DoKakuNaru(47) > 103 39KinUtsu > 104 35KeiUtsu I would prefer to dare to exchange the promoted Bishop for the Gold on 3i instead of 104 N*3e which would meet the proverb "Without gold in hand there is no defense" and "In the endgame speed is more important than material" since there would be the series of threatmating attack to hisshi as below. This variation might be felt too long, but I think this would be a rather simple straight way. 104 +Bx3i(threatmate) 105 Sx3i 106 N*4g(threatmate) 107 S*2h 108 Nx3i+(threatmate) 109 Sx3i 110 S*4g(threatmate) 111 B*2h 112 S*3h(threatmate) 113 Sx3h 114 Sx3h+(threatmate) 115 S*3i 116 +S*2h(threatmate) 117 Sx2h 118 B*4g(threatmate) 119 S*3i 120 S*3h(threatmate) 121 Sx3h 122 +Rx3h(brinkmate, hisshi) Manabu Terao
