From: DANERUD MARTIN TELIA COM> Date: 4 apr 1999 Subject: Springtime for shogi in Denmark! Dear shogi friends, Let me briefly report some good news from a visit to Denmark by representatives of the Swedish Shogi Federation. A more detailed report with photos will be published in the official ISPS magazine "Kakehashi" (Bridge). We are deeply grateful to the ISPS for their support. Carl Johan Nilsson and I visited the Danish city Aarhus during the Danish Championship of chess. We distributed our shogi leaflet with the rules and all the important addresses and links, translated to Danish, to all 400 participants. After that, we had a table at the event, where we demonstrated shogi to approximately 20 people during two days. An additional ten people were informed at the Aarhus chess cafe Chess House during the second evening. Several handicap games were played during the two days, reaching from "first game handicap" with a lonely king to the two piece (rook + bishop) handicap. There was also a spontaneous shogi tournament with eight Danish players and three rounds. All participants got shogi sets of various kinds. We collected all names and addresses of the Danish shogi players, and the Danes will now start to organize shogi in Denmark! Our new Danish shogi friends were also cordially invited to the Swedish Shogi Federation autumn tournament Malmo Open in southern Sweden. Hereby, we also like to extend that invitation to all readers of Shogi-L: Welcome to Malmo Open 1999!
