From: Doug Dysart EMAIL UC EDU> Date: 27 sep 1998 Subject: Int'l Shogi Set Hi all, Today I played on a new (used) set which Josh Krekeler got from an auction online. I was very impressed. It has the standard int'l pieces, made out of plastic, but the board resembles a chess board. This is unique for a nice shogi board. My reason for posting this is that I'd like to order more of these sets, as they would invariably attract many chess players who are intimidated by Japanese culture, the characters, or the lack of black squares. I hope to also make a 3-D set resembling a chess set. Anyway, the set I played on today is made by Games Gang, Inc. John Fairbairn wrote the rules, which are nicely illustrated. It was made back in '87, but it should still be out there somewhere, waiting for me to get my hands on it.
