From: Doug Dysart EMAIL UC EDU> Date: 22 sep 1998 Subject: Dancing Shogi Piece Hi all, I want to announce the world's first dancing shogi piece, animated by one of my computer wizard buddies. There's a link to it from the Ohio Shogi Club page (http://members.theglobe.com/ohioshogi), but the direct address is: http://members.tripod.com/~Shogi/SHOGIDANCE.GIF Make sure you capitalize the right letters. BTW, the Midwest and East Coast all are planning on big events very soon. Oct. 10 & 11 will feature Sugimoto-san in Chicago for lecturing (he's a pro 5-dan), while the next weekend will be George Marino's Proviso tournament, also in Chicago. On Oct. 16 thru 18, New York will host what I believe is America's biggest shogi event EVER! There will be the Ryu-O title match at the Kitano Hotel. I believe Tanigawa will be defending against Fujii. Also, there's the East Coast Meijin, an amateur tournament running along with the title match. Then (there's more!!) the Shogi Federation of America will have its kickoff meeting as all this other stuff is going on. Please be there if you can. A lot of important administrative and promotional issues will be decided at this time. For more info, email the pro tem chairman of the SFA, Josh Krekeler (joshxles one net), or go to the SFA web page: http://members.theglobe.com/ohioshogi/sfa.html BTW, I have a question. What the heck is a MacMahon pairing system? I know about the Swiss and Schroeder ones. Anyone want to enlighten me?
