From: Sam Sloan ISHIPRESS COM> Date: 16 nov 1998 Subject: Re: Results, Stockholm Open I note that Miss Irina Novikova, age 18, now ranked 1 kyu, finished fourth and she even won four games (which is about four more than she won in the past). Although her achievement is somewhat diminished by the fact that the strongest opponent she defeated was only rated 8 kyu, nevertheless it is remarkable how this young woman is able to get around the world on her own and to do things which other girls can only dream of. She is also remarkably gifted when it comes to languages. She probably by now speaks Swedish fluently. If not, she probably will in a week or two.
