We have always used this model, and I think that it is a good and recommendable way of avoiding byes and strange tournaments with some disappointed players. In Goteborg Open, our treasurer Anders Sandberg was "Mr 50 %", but that time he could play. This time I had a quiet weekend as the tournament director. I only saw nice and friendly faces around. The game of shogi was in focus. Stockholm Open was the biggest shogi tournament ever in Sweden, and we still think that there has never been a bigger shogi tournament further north than this in the world. The next event, arranged by the Swedish Shogi Federation, will be the historic first Swedish Shogi Championship. The Championship tournament, open only to Swedish citizens, will be played in Goteborg, February 19-21 1999, and the play-off for the top four players of the Championship tournament with the challenger semifinal, the challenger final and the best-of-five games final match will be played in Malmo, May 13-16 1999. Sincerely yours, Dr. Martin Danerud President of the Swedish Shogi Federation
