From: George Jost SYMPATICO CA> Date: 6 nov 1998 Subject: Sushi Open - Best way to organize a tournament in small club??? We have a small club with a mixed variety of players most of which are unrated novices; and two strong players one rated close to perhaps 1 kyu and the other perhaps 2 dan. What is the best manner of rating players to make the tournament interesting? Would it be reasonable to make it an even tournament with a prize or better to make a handicap tournament with a prize? I was considering the latter but I don't know how to fairly rate the players and also how to choose the handicaps. I have descided the prize, a Sushi dinner at Ottawa's best Sushi restaurant or the equivalent cdn $50 meal. The advantage of making the game even is that if outsiders or new people take a shot at it, at least it is fair? On the otherhand it is more fun for us novices if at least we have a sporting chance.
