From: Paul Connors LUCENT COM> Date: 24 may 1998 Subject: Re: The Fraudulent "Ishi Press" web site Without wishing to take sides, I would like to say that I did welcome Sam Sloan's post on his problems with Ishi Press. His post went a long way to explain possible reasons why I had problems with Ishi Press myself, when I ordered a Shogi book from them a few years ago (never got the book, never got a refund, always got the run-around). Why should readers of this list be interested? What effect does it have on the Shogi community? -- we need to know which sources of Shogi products may or may not be on the up-and-up; -- we need to be aware that sources of reliable Shogi information must be easily findable on the web; -- problems like this may cause a bad reputation for *Shogi* itself. In my case, since I did not get the book I ordered, I just assumed that the Shogi community was flaky, and switched my attention to other interests. Censorship is not the answer. Shogi, though a wonderful game with a tremendous history and culture, has little enough hold on the world outside Japan for us to subject it to censorship of any kind. Paul Connors ------------
