Sorry that this announcement is so late, but only recently did I receive
the information from Kiyoshi Ohnogi (!) and Larry Kaufman (via Doug Dysart).

The 1998 US Shogi Championship will take place on April 25 and 26 in the
Meeting Hall in Little Tokyo Towers, 455 East Third Street, Los Angeles, CA

Pedro Street, 3F, Los Angeles, CA 90012; phone (213) 628-3656.

It is possible that two trips to Japan including participation in the
"First International Amateur Shogi Tournament" (8-13 October 1998) can be
won at the US Championship by the best two USA citizens who also live in
the USA. As there is no American Shogi Association, I do not actually know
who will make a decision about qualification, though.
