From: Takenobu Takizawa MN WASEDA AC JP> Date: 14 feb 1998 Subject: The result of the 8th Computer Shogi Championship I would like to report on the 8th Computer Shogi Championship in Japan. We had exciting days this week. The tounament was held February 12 through 13 at Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay Hotel and Towers. The amateur program IS(Information Science)-Shogi made by four graduate students of the University of Tokyo won the championship. This was the first time that an amateur program won the Computer Shogi Championship. The second was Kanazawa-Shogi (former name was Kiwame), and the third was Shotest by an English person, Jeff Rollason. This was also the first time that non-Japanese program got an award. Because IS is an amateur program, the programmers got the Amateur award, too. Reijer will report more detail and how his program worked at the tournament. The following is the results of the Final on February 13. Round Robin w-l-d SB Result 1. Yss8.0 5x 6x 7x 8o 3o 4o 2x 3-4-0 9 5 2. Kanazawa3 8x 7x 6o 4o 5o 3x 1o 4-3-0 16 2 3.
