From: Martin Danerud PARTILLE MAIL TELIA COM> Date: 22 dec 1998 Subject: The Swedish Championship of shogi Dear shogi friends, In 1999 the first ever Swedish Shogi Championship will be played. The Championship tournament will be played February 19-21 in Goteborg. The invitation to the tournament can be found at: http://www.cd.chalmers.se/~ralf/shogi/sv/sm.html and the updated list of participants can be found at: http://www.cd.chalmers.se/~ralf/shogi/sv/sm_participants.html Seven rounds will be played with the time limit one hour per player + 30 s byo-yomi. A Swedish passport and a membership of the Swedish Shogi Federation are needed for all participants. The top four players will be qualified for the Swedish Championship play-off May 13-16 in Malmo. The winner of the challenger semi final (players number three and four from the Championship tournament; one game, two hours per player + 60 s byo-yomi) will meet number two from the Championship tournament in the challenger final (one game, two hours per player + 60 s byo-yomi). The winner of the challenger final will meet number one from the Challenger tournament in a best-of-five-games match about the Swedish Championship title (two hours per player + 60 s byo-yomi). The Swedish Champion will have to defend his (or her) title one year later in the final match against the challenger of year 2000. The maximum seven games will be covered live at the Internet. We aim to receive media and public attention during the Championship tournament and especially during the play-off. The Swedish Championship will thus be the generator of the future growth of shogi in Sweden. A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Dr. Martin Danerud President of the Swedish Shogi Federation
