Its features include: * Detailed instructions for playing Shogi. * An intuitive graphical user interface. * Intelligent automatic promotion. * Right click online help to show valid moves. * Both Glyph and Kanji sprite sets. * A second generation computer opponent. * Support for multi-processing (under Windows NT). * Support for multi-computing (over a TCP/IP network). This list contains features that are implemented now; when WinShogi is released to the public it could contain more. Currently, work is progressing to dramatically improve the computer opponent and more artwork is being developed. --- However, WinShogi has not been publicly released yet. --- While we will commit to nothing, we hope to release the first version in the first quarter of 1999. The WinShogi home-page is up, though, and contains some basic information about WinShogi. One of the things you can find on the WinShogi home-page is a web-based interface to the WinShogi mailing list. People subscribed to this list will be sent e-mail notification when releases are made. You can find the WinShogi home-page at: http://www.nexus.carleton.ca/~ttidman/WinShogi/index.html For those of you who remember ABC Shogi, you'll find the artwork strangely familiar. This is because the people working on WinShogi are the same people who brought you ABC Shogi. I'll be the first to admit that ABC Shogi had its flaws but I'll also be quick to point out that ABC Shogi was a valuable learning experience. We like to think that, in every way, WinShogi is far superior. In any event, if you're interested, subscribe to the WinShogi mailing list or stay tuned to this list and we'll let you know as soon as it's out.
