From: Leslie Kish & Joshua Krekeler ONE NET> Date: 21 aug 1998 Subject: Announcing the Shogi Federation of America The following cover letter and charter draft were mailed to shogi clubs and postal players Thursday afternoon. These postings are the second part of their official distribution. Shogi Federation of America 460 Warner Street Cincinnati, Ohio 45219 (513) 241-3370 Dear Shogi Player: Welcome to the Shogi Federation of America. We have been organized by a group of subscribers to Shogi-L (the shogi mailing list on the Internet) for the purpose of establishing a formal regulatory body for shogi in America. We would like to invite you, as a shogi player, to participate in writing the SFA's bylaws over the next seven weeks. Here is our proposed timeline: September 8 Pro tem charter approved September 8- October 12 Discussion of bylaws October 15-16 Bylaws approved and adopted at meetings before the Ryu-O game and First International Amateur Shogi Tournament qualifier in New York City October 26 Bylaws sent to Secretary of State for incorporation as a non-profit corporation Please distribute copies of the attached pro tem charter to the members of your club. It is a draft, and a revised version will go into effect only after it meets with your general approval. Discuss it among yourselves and decide what you think should be changed, added, or omitted. Please send your suggested revisions to me by September 8, by mail to the above address or by e-mail to joshxles one net. If you have access to the World Wide Web, you are also encouraged to sign up for the SFA discussion list at http://usshogi.listbot.com. If you are interested in running for an office in the permanent organization, or if you know somebody else who would do a good job, please send a statement of the candidate's qualifications to either of the above addresses (physical or e-mail). The recommended length is one or two paragraphs. The elected offices will be determined during the bylaws discussion, so you may change the office you are running for at any time. Nominations will be accepted throughout the month of September. Specific deadlines and a list of offices will be announced in a subsequent mailing. Sincerely, (signed) Josh Krekeler Pro Tem Chairman
