From: David Beattie PHYSCHEM OX AC UK> Date: 6 aug 1998 Subject: Software and servers Hi everyone, I just wanted to ask a few questions and raise a few points. First of all, I spotted a web-site that might interest people. Oxford Softworks (http://www.oxford-softworks.com) are about to release a shogi program. They have details about it on their web-site (note - I have absolutley no connection with the company - I just thought I'd share the results of my web surfing with the people on the shogi list). The reason I bring this up is that I was wondering what kind of demand there is for a shogi server client program. I know that one of the go servers also handles shogi but as far as I am aware there are no nice client programs for it (unlike the multitude of go client programs). I was going to e-mail Oxford Softworks and propose that they also include a client program with their package. As no-one seems about to produce a client program for free I thought that if a company had an incentive (ie. including a client program with their normal program might boost sales) that they might just put one out. Anyway, I thought I'd raise the issue here - you never know, if people keep suggesting it to them they might take it on board.
