From: Patrick Davin LYRA VEGA OR JP> Date: 18 sep 1997 Subject: TsumePara article mentions SHOGI-L A column appearing in the September issue of the Japanese magazine "Tsumeshogi Paradise", (pp 102-103, by Mutsuaki Kido, who writes a regular chess column for "TsumePara"), mentions SHOGI-L and some other pieces of the international internet shogi scene. The article: * describes SHOGI-L in fair detail (membership breakdown, topics of conversation, subscription information, etc) for the Japanese audience. * describes Shogi Nexus and the Tsumeshogi Challenge. (TsumePara contributes problems to the Challenge, and in return I mention their excellent magazine at every opportunity. :-) ) Kido-san points out that the response to the Tsumeshogi Challenge amounts to about 10% of the SHOGI-L members, remarkable when compared to (print) magazine quizzes, which typically attract less than 1% of their subscribers. (Thanks, everybody!) * mentions Eric Cheymol's shogi page, especially Eric's recent "adventure in Japan", which I hope nobody has missed. The article gives the (correct) impression that we "foreign" shogi fans, considering our small absolute number, support our hobby in an overwhelmingly more active manner than do the vastly more numerous Japanese fans. Hopefully, reading this will spark a few more Japanese fans to positive participation in SHOGI-L and shogi on the internet. Meanwhile, let's keep up the good work!
