From: "Randal J. Andrews" IX NETCOM COM> Date: 12 sep 1997 Subject: The Defense Triumphs The Defense Triumphs Goda moves his generals away from his king (27...G-5d) and perhaps this tempts Hatakeyama into attacking (moves 30, 31, 32). At times, it hardly seems that Hatakeyama can continue, but he keeps hammering away, while his own king is securely defended. Only the prohibition against pawn drop mates keeps Goda in the game and ultimately the material sacrificed is too great. However I wonder, if the attack was misplayed or if the defense was perfect. It would have been instructive to see how Goda consolidates his material advantage and follows through with his own attack.
