Many games were tough shogi fights. Unfortunately, the Norwegian team had to use substitutes for two of their players who suffered from bad health and could not join the team on the journey to Sweden. But during this weekend no one could have stopped the Swedish team. Now, all the efforts that have contributed to Swedish shogi during the last year paid off. A rematch is scheduled for May 1998 in the Norwegian capital Oslo. We all hope that the rematch will be a new manifestation of the growing shogi interest in the Nordic countries. A parallel tournament was also played. The victory of the parallel tournament was shared by three players: Anders Vidal (S), Mikael Jansson (S), and Masashi Takemoto (J).
