From: Steve Evans NETSPACE NET AU> Date: 7 oct 1997 Subject: Announcing Shogi Variants 1.4 I have just put a new version of my Windows Shogi Variants program on my web page. While there are no new variants, there are many changes and new features. They include: - Making text diagrams in exactly the format recommended for Shogi-L (with captured pieces on the right), or in the smaller format advocated by Yoshinori Sawada. - Recognising check and showing the threats and protection of all squares and pieces, and the influence of each player over the board. - Using "proper" notation for scores (without the starting square if it is not needed). - Improved kanji for Shogi itself and a much improved interface. The program can be downloaded from: http://www.netspace.net.au/~trout/index.html A more detailed summary of the changes is at: http://www.netspace.net.au/~trout/whatsnew.txt Hopefully, I will have a basic computer opponent ready for Version 1.5.
