From: Andrew Gove IX NETCOM COM> Date: 27 may 1997 Subject: Online shogi Hi all, Forgive me if this is a FAQ, but this is my first message to this list. I've done some web-searching for an online shogi server, and only found the IGS go server which purports to support shogi. However, when I registered and logged on, there were over 50 go games and no shogi (or chinese chess) games in progress. Does anyone use the IGS for shogi any more? If so, is there a particular meeting time or something? IGS = telnet 203.255.112.3 6969 Is there a more active shogi site? I also found a Java server, but it was barely active and didn't seem to provide a way to observe other people's games. JavaShogi = http://www.info.waseda.ac.jp/muraoka/shogi/index.html Finally, I am loosely connected with the Internet Chess Club, which provides a high-quality (but not free) chess server. The ICC is considering starting other games (expanding into Shogi is my idea :-) ), and I'm currently trying to figure out if there is enough interest in a good shogi server for it to be economically viable.
