Hi,

True, chess computers rely on pure computational to find the BEST move,
but it still his limited arificial intelligence. They do know what a
good position is and what isn't. They can also tell if a certain move
will immediately turn into a bad position, and so will skip that move
when processing the 10 or whatever ply searches.
