From: Douglas Dysart UCBEH SAN UC EDU> Date: 7 may 1997 Subject: OHIO SHOGI CLUB Hi all, This is Douglas Dysart announcing the official birth of the Ohio Shogi Club and its introduction on the internet. The club can be found on the World Wide Web at www.uc.edu/~dysartdj . A long time in the making, we Ohioans can finally say we're on the map! The page is rather primitive, but is linked to one of (if not THE) America's best shogi players' pages, namely Chiaki Ito's Wisconsin Shogi Club page. Brief History Of Doug Dysart: (1) learned about the game in 1993 after playing chess seriously for a year, (2) played first game in Jan.'96, (3) went to US Shogi Championship in NY and played professionals (all after riding Greyhound for a total of 40 hours!!), (4) visited Chicago Shogi Club in Summer'96, (5) played host to Shogi Popularization Society's top dawg Teichii Yamada in May'96, (6) organized tourney in July'96, (7) gave many simuls at chess clubs since then. I am very excited to be the premier player in Cincinnati. I have seen shogi grow a lot in the last year. Interest is gaining rapidly. The right turn of events would bring Cincinnati to high status in the USA. All the help ANYONE can give me would help. I can use encouragement, support, etc. Single-handedly, I've spread shogi throughout the chess world here and have sowed the seeds for a possibly strong club. I have to find more Japanese players. All I have now are chess-based non-Japanese. I'm a UC computer science student who is 20 years old. I have a limited amount of time for shogi, but unlimited enthusiasm. Pardon the long message and boring details. BTW, has anyone heard of a Josh Krekel. He asked for me to play him, but I've lost track of him. Thank you very much for your time, Douglas Dysart P.S. There are about 20 people here who have seen the wonders of shogi. About 10 of those will play on a regular basis. My chess rating is about 2000 ELO. My shogi strength was about 1-kyu at one point. Who knows where it is now. Officially it's something like 8-kyu. I'll be glad to exhibit my strength/weaknesses anytime. :-) You can reach me at (513) 489-4353. call collect if you wish!
