From: Robert Wade <101362.1752 COMPUSERVE COM> Date: 27 mar 1997 Subject: Re: Shukan Shogi 678 In Reijer Grimbergen's report of the coverage of Jun'i-sen, B1 class, in Shukan Shogi No. 678 Tamaru 8-dan is referred to six times as "Tamura". This has also occurred a few times in previous reports. To clarify: Tamaru 8-dan, a former A class player, is the white-haired, smiling one who regularly avoids relegation from B1 in the style of Coventry City in the Premier League. Tamura 4-dan is the young player in C2 who moves like greased lightning. Also in the past Murayama and Maruyama have been mis-identified. Murayama 8-dan has just been relegated from the A class and this year won the Tokyo TV tournament (in which the game Tamaru-Tamura occurred!) and could rudely be described as the short plump one. Maruyama 6-dan (his promotion to 7-dan takes effect from April 1st) just won the B2 class and has twice previously won the Shinjin-O. Therefore we can look forward to the game Murayama-Maruyama in B1 next season. Just to add to the confusion: after the recent completion of the latest san-dan league it seems we have a new Kimura and a third Kobayashi to go with the 3 Satos, 3 Itos, 2 Tanakas, 2 Suzukis, 2 Hatakeyamas, 2 Nakatas (+ a Nakada), 2 Horiguchis, 2 Kinoshitas and 2 Yamaguchis !
