From: David Levy INTRSRCH DEMON CO UK> Date: 26 mar 1997 Subject: Shogi at the Mind Sports Olympiad SHOGI TOURNAMENT DATES for the 1ST MIND SPORTS OLYMPIAD Because of a clash with the dates of the European Shogi Championship in Brussels (August 22nd-24th), we have decided to shorten by 1 day (from 5 days to 4 days) the Shogi Championship at the Mind Sports Olympiad. The Shogi Championship at the Mind Sports Olympiad will now run from Monday August 18th to Thursday August 21st, with play from 10am-2pm each day. The venue of the Mind Sports Olympiad is the Royal Festival Hall, which is London's best known concert hall. It is only 5 minutes walk from Waterloo station from where the Eurostar trains leave for Brussels. Since the last round of our tournament will finish by 2pm on August 21st, players may then take the train to Brussels and arrive in time for dinner, and then take part in the European Championship starting on the 22nd. If there are enough players travelling from London to Brussels we may even be able to arrange a group ticket on the train, at reduced cost. For those who will not be playing in Brussels we also have two quickplay Shogi tournaments on the weekend of August 23-24. We have a very large list of cheap accommodation in London. This may be found on our web site: http://www.mindsports.co.uk/ Our web site also contains afull details about the Mind Sports Olympiad. This site is updated every 2-3 weeks (the next update will be around April 20th). The Shogi activities at the Mind Sports Olympiad are now as follows: August 18-21, 10am-2pm: Olympiad Championship tournament. 12 rounds (3 games per day). 30 minutes per player for all the moves. August 23, 4pm-8pm: Quickplay tournament. 15 minutes per player for all the moves. August 24, 10am-2pm: Another quickplay tournament. 15 minutes per player for all the moves. We are giving gold, silver and bronze medals in all three tournaments, and another set of medals for the best juniors (under 16 on August 18th). In addition there will be cash and other prizes (exact details to be announced later) in all three tournaments. We hope that by changing our dates we have made it possible for Shogi enthusiasts to enjoy both the Mind Sports Olympiad and the European Shogi Championship. David Levy
