From: George Jost CA NEWBRIDGE COM> Date: 18 mar 1997 Subject: Relax and read the Art of Shogi with an open mind!!! I won't bother to quote anyone, but I noticed quite a overly touchy nerve re: The Art of Shogi, a copy of which I am eagerly awaiting to receive; I personally am most interested in having an advanced Shogi book so that I could perhaps aspire to give Reijer (and others) a challenge at a suitably REDUCED handicap. I can tell you, I've a long way to go... I don't think we should imagine that any author is so sensitive that they are not open to CONSTRUCTIVE critism. (An author is also NOT oblidged to act apon all of it; after all he may not agree. Also he may not find sufficient audience to revise). If you disagree with the specific critism say so too! (I refuse to tolerate destructive critism but I haven't seen any yet provided by anyone among us.) Someone else writing future books; if they feel its worth the effort may also keep our likes dislikes in mind. (If we were destructively rude, I suppose that that might also factor into their descision.) Thanks Tony, keep up the good work. I'm looking forward to 288 pages of Shogi indulgence! Heh heh heh (The girl friend won't approve of course ...)
