From: Yoshinori Sawada FA2 SO-NET OR JP> Date: 28 jun 1997 Subject: Diagram Dear shogi lovers The other day one of this shogi-L member asked if there is a good software to put a diagram into text file. I am using a software called "Kifu for Windows 95 V3.03" which was made by Mr.Kakinoki and has that function. However it unfortunately can be used in Japanese. I am wondering if Mr.Kakinoki can make the English version. I think the diagram in English generally used in text, for example in e-mail shogi is too big. Among Japanese e-mail shogi players, smaller diagram put out by "Kifu for Windows 95" is very popular. I tried to remake the the Japanese diagram by above software into English one by hand. What do you think of the following diagram? White in hand: nothing 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 +---------------------------+ |wL wN wS wG wK wG wS wN wL |a | * wR * * * * * wB * |b |wP * wP wP wP wP * wP wP |c | * wP * * * * wP * * |d | * * bP * * * * * * |e | * * * * * * * * * |f |bP bP * bP bP bP bP bP bP |g | * * * * * * * * * |h |bL bN bS bG bK bG bS bN bL |i +---------------------------+ Black in hand: nothing Up to (W)P-8d "*" indicates that there is no piece in that square, and in case of promotion I will put "+" on the right like "wP+". To tell the truth, I translated some josekis into English, and I am considering what is the good diagram to use in it. Also about the notation, how about using (W) or (B) like above "(W)P-8d" to indicate which players move (Black or White) it is. Any Opinion is appreciated. ---- $B_7ED (B $B5AB' (B Tokyo Japan E-mail address: sawada fa2 so-net or jp Nifty-serve ID: VED05133
