Hmm, I'm trying to remember the things I did.

1.  Teach the game to anyone who is willing to play.  School chess clubs are
a great place if the coach is okay with it.  (Of course it helps that I teach
high school and am the "coach"/sponsor)

2.  Ask a local game store if you can hold a demonstration.  Have flyers
ready.

3.  Find out what other players live near you and set up an informal meeting
- Shogi-L is a great place to find them.

4.  Are there any Japanese near you?
