From: George Jost CA NEWBRIDGE COM> Date: 9 jun 1997 Subject: Shogi Master, pawn drop mates, and the S.M. author 1) Does anybody, for example Sam Sloan, know the e-mail address of the author of Shogi Master? I don't want to particularly ask him about any bugs, but I did want to drop him a line. (Perhaps Sam Sloan might know, since he appears to be involved alot with ISHI Press...? 2) A long while ago, it was reported on this list that the program, Shogi Master had a bug that it allowed one to checkmate by dropping a pawn. (Sorry, I no longer have this message). In any case, yesterday, the program correctly forbid me to drop a pawn and (illegally) win the game ... The bug that was reported perhaps occurs in restricted cases? 3) Is it really true that you can almost always find a checkmate where there is a mate by pawn drop? I lost my game against Shogi Master on that point. I was going to save the Game for future study, but I accidently deleted the game before I could save it. ======== A loss is a learning opportunity ... The trick is not to make the same mistake twice.
