From: Matt Casters NETPOINT BE> Date: 9 jul 1997 Subject: European Championships 1997 Hello Shogi-friends, It's my pleasure to officially announce the 1997 European Championships. The EC formula will be exactly the same as last year. This means that the dan-section is only open for FESA members and for people who live in Europe for more then 1 year. As last year the dan-players will start on Friday and play the final round on Sunday. (see below for a complete schedule) All dan-players (FESA-members) in Europe will receive a written invitation. As far as the side tournament is concerned (the kyu-section) I have to report some bad news. Because of the large number of players, we have had budget problems last year, so this year we might have to let you pay for things. Eddy Verhaeven, the official tournament organiser, told me that this would never be over 500-,BF. This is for the complete week-end, but like last year, I'm sure we can find a solution. The exact amount depends largely on the number of participants. Also, for the people that were not there last year, we plan to organise the blitz tournament again on Saturday evening.(we had 52 participants last year) This blitz-tournament is NOT only for people playing in the dan- or kyu-section, everybody can join the fun. Bookmark http://www.netpoint.be/shogi/ek97/ as the EC'97 homepage. Here you can also find a map with the venue on it, and a list of all the people that have subscribed so far. Last year we had a total of 62 players in the tournament. I really hope we can beat this number this year. The organisation would like to specially thank RICOH for their generous support ! Kind regards, Matt Casters P.S. Pictures will be taken and put on the web-site after the tournament ! =============================================================================== INVITATION TO : 1997 EUROPEAN SHOGI CHAMPIONSHIP MAIN SECTION : DAN PLAYERS ONLY (FESA-members or European residence) 3 Days, 7 rounds + play-offs if needed Schedule : Round Date Starting hour 1 Friday 22/8 13:00 (13:30) 2 Friday 22/8 16:00 3 Friday 22/8 20:00 4 Saturday 23/8 09:00 5 Saturday 23/8 13:00 6 Saturday 23/8 15:30 7 Sunday 24/8 09:30 Proclamation Sunday 24/8 13:00 FREE OF ALL CHARGES IF RESERVATIONS ARE MADE IN ADVANCE (You'll get a single room for 2 nights + 6 meals) SIDE SECTION : KYU PLAYERS 2 Days, 6 rounds Schedule : Round Date Starting hour 1 Saturday 23/8 09:30 2 Saturday 23/8 13:00 3 Saturday 23/8 15:30 4 Saturday 23/8 20:00 5 Sunday 24/8 09:30 6 Sunday 24/8 13:00 Proclamation Sunday 24/8 15:30 (You'll get a single room for 1 night + 3 meals) The exact cost is yet to be determined and will depend largely on the number of participants.
