From: Pieter Stouten CARBON DMPC COM> Date: 10 apr 1997 Subject: US Shogi Championship 12 and 13 April 1997 The US Championship will be held this weekend and a large number of players of all strengths have already confirmed participation. This is *your* chance to meet some of the people that you know from this list but have never met in real life, to play against real people on a real board (if you have no oppenents close to home) or against someone else than your regular opponents, to improve your shogi skills, to engage in handicaps games against a professional, to take a shot at becoming US champion, to play in a team match, to enjoy the Cherry Blossom festival and, last but not least, to abuse yours truly (this nasty guy who runs SHOGI-L) in person if you are so inclined. Whether it is a long-standing ambition or a spur-of-the-moment idea, just come and enjoy yourself. If two days is too much to be away from home, then just come one day. Take your family with you and let them enjoy the Washington museums (my family certainly will). For those of you who thought the original announcement of the tournament was a wee bit lengthy, the most relevant details follow below. Hope to see you in DC!
