From: Pieter Stouten CARBON DMPC COM> Date: 12 sep 1996 Subject: Mail about KIWAME shogi Earlier today, a student who got access to Jens Mueller-Koppe's PC at the University of Bremen sent a mail to SHOGI-L mentioning that Kiwame Shogi was attached and that he thought that this piracy would not harm the Japanese company that has the rights to it. Fortunately (as far as I can tell), the program was *NOT* attached to the mail message, so no real harm was done. Nevertheless, I'd like to take this opportunity to make the following points: 1) Jens Mueller-Koppe did not and does not endorse piracy and never intended the message nor the Kiwame program to be distributed via SHOGI-L. His only mistake was to leave his PC unguarded for a short while. 2) Any and all reasons that people may have for justifying unofficial distribution of Kiwame in Europe (including that it will not harm its copy right holder and manufacturer) are irrelevant. The simple fact is that its owners hold all rights to the program, and (re)distributing it without their prior consent constitutes an act of piracy for which there is no place on SHOGI-L.
