From: Stephen J Lamb DEV ALS CO UK> Date: 23 oct 1996 Subject: Looking for Japanese fonts for the Mac Hello fellow Shogi-L subscribers, A friend of mine needs to produce about 70 Japanese shogi expressions (mainly Kanji but with some Hiragana and Katakana thrown in) for a Mac word-processing document he is writing. Since he doesn't have internet access, I've been charged with the task of finding some suitable Mac fonts for him so he can do this. Well, here's the problem... I've found suitable Katakana and Hiragana fonts in the public domain but I haven't been able to find suitable Kanji fonts. Does anyone know of any freeware (or, possibly, cheap shareware) Kanji fonts available that my friend can use, and where I can find them? Given the number of characters in a Kanji font, some utility for helping to type in the characters is also needed. I realize that the Mac Japanese Language Kit (JLK) contains everything my friend needs, but he doesn't want to have to spend the 120 UKP (or whatever it is) to buy it just so he can produce a one-off list of 70 expressions. Perhaps someone wouldn't mind turning a blind eye and lending him the relevant fonts from the JLK if others can't be found? Anyway, please help if you can. Although I can't give details at the moment, you will definitely be helping the English-speaking shogi community if you do! Many thanks, Steve Lamb.
