Are you / Do you know anyone in the Seattle are who knows how to play and would be intersted in doing so? >> I've gotten help in finding local players from Ishi Press (who were stingy about giving out their address list (which is a good thing)), or contacting Nihon Shogi Renmei. Also see if you can post flyers in areas with higher Japanese populations. Another good idea, if you're willing to wait to reap the harvest, is to teach the game to schoolkids. I taught a group of sixth graders last year, who have now fallen in love with the game and are willing to learn anything I or anyone else wants to teach about shogi. Take heart. Starting up is the slowest. We went for three years in Chicago with a club whose meetings averaged at two or three players. Now 12 is not uncommon, and we're still growing.
