From: "michael J. shelton" AOL COM> Date: 18 may 1996 Subject: Re: Notation and freedom of speech on SHOGI-L Fellow Shogi-L participants, Being rather new to Shogi-L I can't actually speak of what conversations went on before, I'm very grateful that the Shogi-L exists. I understand that there is great feeling about how the notation should be written, and the comment about van gough had a point. I think Mr. Fernandez also makes a very good point and his comments were extremely helpful. Perhaps it's rather presumptuous of me to suggest that if people don't enjoy Mr. Iwakura's comments or efforts he puts in to adding to Shogi-L that maybe they just should skip over them, much the same way one doesn't watch a television show. Granted there are many diverse individuals on the list, and we all come from diverse back grounds and cultures. Our common bonding is indeed Shogi. It is my humble opinion that any Shogi news is better than no Shogi news. Reijer's comments on Shukan Shogi are eagerly awaited each week by myself. His efforts are applauded. I guess all I'm trying to say is that anyone who would take the time, and effort to sit down and add to the list, provoke thought, or share news, or in any way contribute to others the understanding of Shogi should be appreciated. I surely do. There is room for us all, and though you can't please everybody all the time, at least we can respect each others opinions and contributions. If not we can always "skip that channel" Thank you all for your time, Michael James Shelton Omaha, Nebraska United States
