Anything else would just complicate > matters and should therefore be avoided ------------------------------------------------------------------- This is Dick Iwakura of Hong Kong Shogi Club on May 17, 1996. Shogi Notation -------------- First of all, I got big shock of the international notation because I could not understand at all even I am Shodan in Hong Kong and 2 dan in Japan. I also was very sad because we continued to play Shogi for more than 400 years and our culture has been modifed by conception of Western Chess. On the other hands, I got many of e-mail directly appreciating my description. There are so many Japanese business men working overseas now a days who wish to know Big Game contents extremely thru Internet if they like Shogi very much. I don't think all of them knows P7f way. For some people, 76 Fu is easier to understand. I hope SHOGI-L officer can adapt both way as Mr.Engelhardt mentioned above. If they can accept it, I would like to start "Super 4-Ken Hisha" formular lectures for Shogi bigginers which are written by my boss Mr.Kenji Kobayashi (Pro.8 dan) or to start "Habu's Brain". No.1 - 10. If it is impossible to accept, I need to wait for somebody to make new conversion software since it is very difficult for me to study the international notation of only 20 years history. Anyway, I am glad that I could know many foreigners are interested in playing Shogi with our original cultures. I have heard RICOH HP is now planning to hold Shogi Olympic on the Internet within this year. I believe this is the King of Hobby. Of course, I am sure to participate the Olympic with all of you. I hope myself not to loose only first round. Felame Shogi Player ------------------- In our Hong Kong Shogi Club, we are teaching Shogi more than 50 children every Sunday afternoon and four girls are enjoying Shogi with boys. I found out that girls are too emotional. If they are captured one Fu, they want to revenge immedaitely to capture the same by any method. When their Gyoku (King) has been attacked as check mate, they sometimes forgot to protect anything and attack enermy's Gyoku, then lost the game. We can see the same situation even in fighting felame proffesionals that they attack each other without defense like Heavy-Class Boxing game. If they lost the game, some girls are crying and never play again. They never consider why they loose the game like boys always review the games after loose. I taught them Shogi is logical game and you have to be cool all the time. However, girls never followed my suggestions and continues emotional(nature?) attack always. Those grils are aged 7-9 years old. Japanese and Chinese girls are no different. From this point of view, we understood femals are too aggresive, so they can not win the game. If they can not win to the boys, they will loose their interest. We ordered girls to close eyes and make one minute meditation before starting the game. It was effective only for a few minutes but they became hot immediately and lost the game again. I believe Shogi itself is not suitable for female. This is my experience by teaching them. I would like to complain their parents. Best regards Dick Iwakura
