From: Reijer Grimbergen ETL GO JP> Date: 15 may 1996 Subject: This week in Shukan Shogi (no.635, May 15th 1995) So it seems that Tokyo-Hong Kong is faster for Shukan Shogi than Tokyo-Tsukuba :-). Saves me the trouble to translate and type in the third game of the Meijin-sen. If it would have been in international notation, this would be a perfect service... Of course the Meijin-sen is the main story in Shukan Shogi today, but also some other interesting games were played. In the Oza Naito scored a big win over Fukaura to reach the best eight. It looks like the Oza is the tournament for those who got heavily beaten by Habu in the past year. Among the best eight are Shima (Kisei, 0-3), Takahashi (Kio, 0-3), Tanigawa (Osho, 0-4) and Mori (Oza, 0-3). In the red group of the Oi league Murayama seriously spoiled Takahashi's chances to become the challenger. Murayama scored his first victory after three straight losses, so Takahashi dropped back to 2-2 and with only one game left, he is pretty much out of it. The other main story in Shukan Shogi is about the first game of the Ladies Osho that was played in Atlanta last week. Title holder Nakai is trying to avoid that Shimizu becomes the Habu of the ladies by taking all major titles. Beating Takeishi (5d) in the men's Kisei must have given her confidence a boost, but it was not enough to win. Shimizu, playing white, took command of the game early, but Nakai fought back hard and had a good chance to win in the endgame. However, byoyomi made her miss a golden opportunity.
