Black (Sanada): K6i, R3f, G7h, S5g, S4g, N8i, N3g, L9i, L1i, +P6c, P9g, P8f, P7f, P2e, P1g in hand: N, 3P White (Taki): K5e, G6a, N7c, L9a, L1a, P9c, P8g, P7d, P2c, P1c in hand: R, 2B, 2G, 2S, 4P The problem in this position is that 1... K5d fails to 2.R3c+ and that black threatens mate with R5f followed by R5c+. What to do? Taki played 1... S*6g!!, both defending against R5f and threatening mate with Sx7h+ etc. Also 2.Gx6g B*7h 3.Kx7h R*8h leads to mate. Sanada tried 2.S4g-5f, but after 2... K5d 3.+P5c Kx5c 4.R3c+ G*4c white's king is safe and his material wins the game.
