I enjoyed playing a Shogi with a Japanese player in the United Kingdom through a Server called 'Taikyoku Server' without minding the 9 hour time difference between the UK and Japan. The server functions like this briefly. When the server receives one move in an E-Mail by a player, it sends the both players an E-mail contaning a diagram of the latest position stating which player to move next. Then the other player send an E-Mail with a next move to the Server. And then the server again sends the both players an E-Mail containing another diagram of the latest position. This cycle will continue till resignation. But two problems for you to use it, possibly. (1) This Taikyoku Server is allowed to be used only by the subscribers of the SHOGI-ML mailing list. The SHOGI-ML is similar to the SHOGI-L but the biggest difference is that almost all the subscribers of the mailing list are Japanese living in Japan and naturally the language used there is only Japanese. (2) You can send your move only using ASCII code in E-mail to the server. For example, if you would like P7g-7f, write "move 7776" in the message and send it to the server. The problem is that the diagrams are made in Kanji code. I'm not sure if the program can be easily altered so that it will send a diagram with non-Kanji characters. Regards Manabu Terao
