It would be better for the Shitate player to postpone the attack until he finished building Silver Tandem. One of the important milestones to graduate 2-piece handicap is whether a Shitate player have learned to put King in a castle such as Crab or Silver Tandem before starting hostilities. It is the major difference with a 4-piece handicap. Please emphasize this to the student of yours. Salvaggione-san, you played well in the middlegame. Especially, the way you captured the Shitate's Rook was excellent and impressive. On the other hand, there seems to be a room for improvement in your endgame. My advice is for you to solve a lot of simple Tsume Problems to develop an insight or feeling about whether Mate or No Mate. And I feel you need to learn what is an effective sacrifice move. > 14. K4h, N9c Uwate's 14, N9c is tricky. > 15. P8f, P9e Shitate's 15, P8f is questionable. P9f would be better. No need to fear Uwate's Night jumping as "The Knight that jump[s high falls prey to Pawn." > 16. P5e, Px5e Shitate's 16, P5e is never a bad move, However it would be better to postpone starting hotilities as above. > 19. K-3h, K-7c Shitate's 19, K3h is questionable. It is time to consider how to keep its Rook in the 9-file alive. My recommendation is 19. R-9f instead. One variation example is here. 19. R-9f, K-7c 20. P-7e, Px7e 21. P-8e, Px8e You see Shtate's Rook will not be captured easily as it can slip till the 5 file now. > 22. Px8e?, Lx9e Shitate's 22 Px8e is questionable. 22. Rx9a Kx9a 23. Px8e R*8g 24. B6f R*8e+ 25. K7f +R8i This will be better to Shitate since taking two for one. But now it is very hard for Shitate to win the game without Rook at this stage. > 23. N*3f, R*6i Shitat's 23 N*3f is a bad move as it is far from attacking Uwate's King. After you lose your Rook, you have to be in a hurry to threat the opponent's King in most cases. > 25. G4-5i?, Rx8i+ (P*5i better?) It is a bit difficult question. If I were the Shitate, I would like to keep the chance to drop a Pawn in the 5 file for counter-attacking without P*5i. > 30. S4e, P*4c Shitate's 25 S4e is a bad move. Much better to drop P*4c before Uwate drop a Pawn at the same place. > 33. P3d, Px3d ?? > 34. Sx3d??, N*6e Uwate's 33, No need to capture P3d. My alternative recommendation is 33. N*5e 34. S3h P4d Shitate's 34, Sx3d, Why not N5b+ instead!! > 36. P*3b, G8c Shitate's 36, P*3b is too slow. N5b+ would be much better again here. > 38. Bx2b+, L*5g Shitate's 36, P*3b is too slow. N5b+ would be much better again here. > 39. P3a+, Lx5h+ Shitate's 39. P3a+, +B6f would be better. Now, Shitate has no hope to win. > 40. Gx5h, +R7h Uwate's 40 +R7h, I would like P*3f as a sacrifice drop here instead in order to break Shitate's Gold- Silver connection. > 42. S*4i, +Nx4g Shitate's S*4i is a bad move. But even if he dropped S*3h, the situation would be still hopeless. > 43. P*4h, +Nx5h?? N*3f would be a quicker YOSE than +Nx5h. 43. N*3f 44. K1g G*3e 45. Px4g S*2h 46. K1h +R5h 47. Sx5h G*1g(mated) would be a variation. > 44. Px5h, N*4f > 45. L*3i, Nx5h+ > 46. Sx5h, +Rx5h > 47. +Bx1a, +Rx4h > 48. P*3h, P*3c > 49. S2c=, G*3f > 50. N*2i S*4g 50. How about S*1g instead of S*4g. There is a foraced mate. Please try and enjoy it. > 51. L*4i, +Rx4i > 52. +Bx2a, L*2f 51. L*2f makes HISSHI. However, there is a forced mate again. Please try it to begin with +Rx3i instead. Hoping this will help you. Regards Manabu Terao
