Subject: Professional RyuO tournament coming to LA!

        Dear shogi fans,

        Habu is coming to LA! The first game of the 9th RyuO title match
will be played in Los Angeles on October 17-18, 1996.
        Information, such as the place and starting time, will be
forthcoming soon.
        The following facts, plans and activities have been established at
this time:
1. Habu and most of the participants in the event will be in Los Angeles
from October 12-20.
2. There will be an amateur tournament held, much like the US Championship
and Amateur RyuO tournament, held in New York, back in March. The date will
be either Sunday, October 13[the preferred date]OR October 19.
3. Some members from the New York, DC, Seattle and LA shogi clubs are
expected to attend and participate in the tournament.
4. The Reception Party, for the players, will be on October 16. It is not
clear whether or not this will be an open or closed event.
5. There will be an exhibition match. Some top US amateur player will be
chosen to play a Lady professional player(even game).
6. Mr. Yaichio Ono, pro 6Dan, who is the official "teacher" of the LA Shogi
Club, will serve as liaison in matters between the professional and amateur
players. He will also be one of the principal organizers for the whole event.
7. Mr. Masatoshi (Mark) Ohno of the LA Shogi Club will be in-charge of, and
coordinate the participation of the amateur players and spectators.
Individuals needing more information regarding this event should contact him
directly as the time approaches (he is out-of-town this week).
