From: Toshiaki Tanigawa INT RDC RICOH CO JP> Date: 3 jun 1996 Subject: Past Going /Ongoing Projects of the ISPS(3/4) Dear Shogi fans, This is the 3rd mail. * Past and Ongoing Projects of the ISPS ======================================================== (1) Holding a Shogi Playing Party in Tokyo on 06/22/96 We are planning a Shogi Playing Party for non-Japanese Shogi Players living in or near Tokyo to have a chance to get to know and play with both non-Japanese and bilingual Japanese Shogi Players. (2) Kifu Translation. The ISPS has translators(non-professional, from Japanese into English). One of the visible achievements you could see is RICOH Kifu Watching Web pages(http://www.ricoh.co.jp/SHOGI/kifu/note.htm). The trans- lation of both notation and commentary from Japanese has been done by them. (3) Publishing a Quarterly Magazine called "Kakehashi" The ISPS publishes "Kakehashi" magazine in both in Japanese and in English regularly(hopefully quarterly). The first Japanese edition has just been released and the first English one is now being prepared. The chief editor is Teiichi Yamada. "Kakehashi in Japanese will serve as a platform for its members and will also be used as a promotional tool for inviting new members to the ISPS" (4) Playing the role of something like an "Information Center" to answer queries on Shogi from Non Japanese people and encourage the people who would like to spread Shogi to Non Japanese people. (5) Monthly Key Member Meeting 12 meetings have already been held. It is usually a 4 hour meeting of key members for achieving our goals. SHOGI-L is recognized as one of the important medium to do this. (6) Organizing a network of those people living in Japan who love Shogi and have a desire to spread Shogi globally, both on and off the Internet, in order to achieve our goals. (7) The ISPS Mailing List(Closed ML) The subscribers of this list are the ISPS members with Internet access. It is an active ML to discuss what is necessary now to spread Shogi over the world and to improve our operation.
