It was founded in May 1995 with 7 volunteers led by Naohiro Sanada and started to recruite members publicly in Apr 1996 after long and deliberate preparational meetings among the founders. Sanada has played a part of the representative for the ISPS since foundation. The purpose of the ISPS is, in short, to do any action considered useful to spread Shogi over the world and encourage the people doing so, as long as its resources permit. The current number of members is approximately 50 or so, and one of our primary goals is to increase this number to more than 100 members in Japan. Since our activities are supported by membership fee itself, this is one of the most significant projects this year. The following people whom you SHOGI-L subscribers may be familiar with are also the ISPS members; Nobuyoshi Fujimoto Hiroki Kawada Takeshi Miyao Toshiaki Tanigawa Teiichi Yamada Hitoshi Matsubara Reijer Grimbergen
