From: Dick Iwakura HK NTTDATA NET> Date: 2 jun 1996 Subject: Switching Rook No.3 SHOGI LECTURE FOR THE BEGINNERS ============================== June 3, 1996 LECTURE NO.3 -- THE SWITCHING ROOK (Hineri Bisha) How is everybody? This is Dick Iwakura of the Hong Kong Shogi Club and let's start Lecture N0. 3 of The Switching Rook. Please review the last Lecture again, and here are the answers for some of the last questions. Let's start the lecture. Hineri Bisha Point #4: #4 -- The Shogi beginners are all surprised with this 97 Kaku (B-9g) because Gote's Hisha (Whites Rook) can promote as 89 HI-NARI (R-8i+) but you need not be afraid of this Hisha Nari (Rook promotion). Because you can kill/capture this Ryu (Promoted Rook)at the end. Can anybody try to kill/capture this Ryu (Dragon) [promoted Rook]?. Try to give me the score you moved. Answer: Sente Gote Black White 97 Kaku 89 Hi Naru B-9g R-8i+ 88 Kaku 72 Kin B-8h G-7b 86 Hi 83 Fu R-8f P-8c 59 Kin 54 Fu G-5i P-5d 69 Kin 53 Gin Hidari G-5i S4b-5c 87 Kin G-8g After above, it proceeds : 64 Gin S-6d 78 Gin 88 Ryu S-7h +R-8h Do Kin 75 Gin Gx8h S-7e 52 Hi 42 Kaku R-5b B-4b 83 Hi Naru Do Kin R-8c Gx8c 62 Hi Naru R-6b+ Then Sente Black wins almost under the same strength as opponent. Instead of 59 Kin (G-5i), 58 Gyoku (K-5h) is it possible to capture the Ryu (+R) and the next movement is 68 Kin (G-6h) -- 78 Gin (S-7h). But if you merely move 68 Kin (G-6h) to 78 Gin(S-7h), it becomes dangerous because it proceeds 88 Ryu(+R-8h) , Do Hi (Rx8h) and 79 Kaku Drop(B*7i). Many answers said 87 Fu(P*8g) after 88 Kaku (B-8g) and Do Kin (Gx8g),79 Ryu (+R7i) Do Kaku (Bx7i) and 78 Gin (S*7h)drop. But Sente's (Black's) next movement of 86 Hi (R-8f) is a very severe attack to Gote (White). Please review again an you will see this is so. Hineri-Bisha Point #6: #6 -- The Sente (Black) can become to be very superior by this move but how? This is my question for all of you. This is actually a very famous movement of Tsugi no Itte (Next step). Please try to think and give me an answer by mentioning at least the next 5 steps. Answer: Sente Gote Black White 43 Fu Do Gyoku P*4c Kx4c 26 Hi 32 Gyoku R-2f K-3b 43 Fu P*4c 70% of the answers were correct and I understood people in SHOGI-L studied many "Tesuji" well. However, Sente's (Black's) attack after 43 Fu (P*4c), Do Gin (Sx4c), there were many mistakes though the way is very simple. The follows are as for an example of success : 43 Fu Do Gin P*4c Sx4c 53 Kaku Naru 52 Kin B-5c+ G-5b 71 Uma 92 Hi +B-7a R-9b 81 Uma 62 Hi +B-8a R-6b 15 Kei! Sente much superior! N-1e Since I still have to answer many other questions sent by personal e-mail to me, I have to close No.3 Lecture at this stage. I am very sorry for everybody who expected this week lesson and apologize for0 this delay caused by my busy schedule. Please expect the lesson next week. Thanks for the many Kifu of your losing games. Please wait for my analyzation though it may take a while. I will try to give you my best suggestion for making your next game a possible win. If I have points that are unknown, I will have to ask my teacher, Mr.Kenji Kobayashi (pro.8 Dan) one by one, for which he is willing to assist all of you thru SHOGI-L. After Hineri-Bisha, I also received many requests for the next lesson as to how to protect the fast attack of Mr. Masuda method (3rd file rook). I understood many beginners are getting frustrated by this strategy. I will make it as simple as possible next lesson after Hineri-Bisha. Among amateur players, Masuda style is still very much alive because this it is not so easy to terminate the attack of this particular strategy. Only a mistake will finish everything. My friend (2 Dan) could have beaten many 4 Dan opponents by using this strategy until his opponents studied deeply on the subject. There are many tricks inside. So Please expect this also. Everybody ! Ganbatte! Best regards Dick Iwakura A Pupil of Kenji Kobayashi
