From: Reijer Grimbergen ETL GO JP> Date: 9 jul 1996 Subject: This week in Shukan Shogi (no. 643, July 10th 1996) "Don't make me angry, you wouldn't like me when I am angry". For those, like me, who watched the Incrdible Hulk in the seventies (Bill Bixby starring as the Hulk), this quote must sound familiar. However, at the moment I think these words properly reflect Habu's state of mind. After Miura snapped his twenty game winning streak in one day title match games in game one of the Kisei title match, Habu really got it going. He crushed Miura in game 2 in only 88 moves and there was not really much Miura could do. An error of judgment in the early middle game where he played an offensive instead of a defensive response to a Habu edge attack and that was pretty much it. The third game was played yesterday and I just read in the newspapers that Habu won that game as well, so instead of being in danger of losing a title, he now just seems to be cruising to another succesfull defense. The other big news is of course that Shimizu has won the fifth game of the ladies Osho match, thereby taking all four major women's titles. Shimizu will know have to live with the nickname "Onna Habu" or "Lady Habu". I wonder if she would like that. Anyway, her victory in game 5 was rather convincing even though Nakai missed a late chance to make a good fight of it. The final important news in this week's Shukan Shogi is about the Oza tournament. In this tournament the four semifinalists are decided. Mori, Tanigawa, Takahashi and Shima all have suffered crushing defeats against Habu in title matches in the past year, but apparantly they did not get enough and want to try again.
