What you mean are tesuji. I think there are more than a hundred of those. Ouchi gives 100 different kinds in his book "Shogi hissho tesuji 100", (100 sure winning Tesuji) one of the first Japanese books any beginner should read. However, I understand the reluctancy of people to try and read Japanese (it is really not that hard, folks!). As a matter of fact, I will have to make a collection of tesuji myself to teach to the Shogi program I am making as part of my research here in Japan. This is not scheduled for another month or two, but if I make such a collection it would not be hard to put it on my homepage. So be a little patient. Of course, if somebody has the time, feel free to start without me ;-). > 2) No lists of usefull castles. (Tractable) > This is something that can at least give one some idea. I think a list of castles is closely related to a list of tesuji. After all, one uses tesuji to break down castles. In any case, these two ideas are good and I think we should try to help beginning players as much as we can until enough players and English language books are available.
