If chessplayers only knew how much fun shogi is we would have lots of players. Look at how chessplayers enjoy bughouse! > Let us consider that any pieces other than kanji are immitation. I agree 99% Let's keep kanji in our diagrams and playing pieces, however, for computer software it would not hurt to provide other options. In particular, the shogi server cannot be kanji, although interface software can provide kanji. >Who among the subscribers will be the first man of the newsgroup? I proposed starting rec.games.shogi months ago, but I don't know how to do it. One member of this mailing list actually opposed this idea! Maybe, Stephen Leary, who started rec.games.chinese-chess could provide us with the expertise to start a newsgroup. > > In the future, we need to use the Shogi server to learn from >Japanese experts. I agree 1,000%. However, we need someone with a great deal of computer programming knowledge to develop the graphical interface. In its present form, I don't think Japanese professionals would find ISS appealing. Also, we need to get more Japanese amateurs to join. Help files need to be re-written for shogi. (The server is based on go.) I volunteered to do this, but never heard anything more about it. Perhaps, someone should translate the help file into Japanese also.
