I made a demo board for teaching purposes out of felt.  The felt pieces stick
quite well to the vertical felt board.  You can use ribbon or draw the lines
on the board.  I drew the Kanji for the pieces.  To avoid the promoted side
bleeding through, I glued two pieces together, one promoted and one not.
 Don't use marker for the board.  It bleeds when you fold it.  I'll be
remaking my board.  All in all, it has worked well and is quite inexpensive.
