I thought I had made what I wanted to discuss quite clear, but obviously there is still some confusion. Mr. Aono of the Shogi Renmei asked me a clear question: If the Renmei would support an international game notation, what would be the best choice or the best choices? This is the question I wanted to discuss here and nothing else. Maybe the term game notation is the cause of the confusion. With this I mean how to write down the moves of a Shogi game, so the issue is not how to make Shogi diagrams or what kind of pieces should be used outside Japan. > We think we can discuss on the broader spreading Shogi. > Internationalization shall naturally has to raise up the way how > it should be. > Terms whether on English translation or on original name should > be consequently discussed here. I acknowledge your right and everyone else's right to discuss these issues. However, my ten years experience with Shogi and the discussions on these issues I have witnessed over the years have led me to believe that there is no conclusion. Even though it may sound a little arrogant, there is very little in the discussions of the past week that I have not heard at least a couple of times before. Furthermore, except for a few minor points, I have no strong ideas on many of the subjects. When asked for advice, I will therefore always try to give all points of view. This is what I intend to do with the notation discussion. I will brief Mr. Aono if he asks me to and let the Renmei make a decision. However, one thing I do believe is that once a decision is made by a major body like the Nihon Shogi Renmei, we should abide by it as much as possible. I will never force something upon someone else, but please consider that a bad standard may be better than no standard at all.
