I cannot tell you very much concerning your software problems, but there are files you can download from the server covering this. Here are some answers to your questions: 1) You can buy Shogi sets e.g in germany from Ruediger Burows Spielekiste Die Spielekiste (Go material, Shogi books and sets). attn. Ruediger Burow, Gesellschaftsstrasse 15, 4750 Unna, West Germany. +49-2303-22442. or some other international suppliers (compare the file SHOGI ADDRESS). 2) You will propably get answers to this from other people. 3) Why not. I started with this book too and I know a lot of beginners books (other games too) which are much worse. Of course you need to play to try out what you have learned. I owned this book for many years (and I had read it at that time already) but learned the game only when I met a japanese go player who was willing to play a game with me from time to time. [... message was cut here/PFWS ...] azine is of course a little more about shogi in english (compare the file shogi books). Additionally you can read some of the western magazines, which are: * Shogi magazine from George Hodges(TSA) 69 issues still available, a treasure chest for shogi readers covering almost everything of interest. * "81" Dutch shogi magazine appearing 4 times a year. In my opinion the best shogi magazine in the west (easily readable for germans and Dutchmen of course). * British Shogi Magazine 4 times a year, has just started again and seems to be very good. * French Shogi Magazine 4 times a year, has just started again and seems to be very good. * German Shogi Magazine. As I am the editor of it I will not say too much, but it has the advantage, that you can get one for free, if you like. It appears 4 times a year too. 4) Why not. In the ladder of Shogi-L there are many players of almost every strength (no Pros yet). Try it out. 5. I am not exactly sure, but as I answered some of your questions (and others will most likely follow), it propably is. Cheers, Thomas Thomas Majewski WABCO Hannover, Germany DEWABMAJ(a)IBMMAIL.COM
